Ethiopia is Motherland of coffee and very colorful coffee origin, because great climate conditions and high altitude it produces some of the best coffees in the world with their on distinctive character.
If looking for a fruity and intensely aromatic cup, you will surely enjoy coffee from the Sidamo region, located in Ethiopia‘s South. Sidamo hosts some of the country‘s highest altitudes for coffee cultivation, ranging from 1,500 to 2,200 masl. As a result, coffees ripen slowly and hence develop more intense flavors. Sidamo is also the source of many of Ethiopia‘s grade 1 and grade 2 beans, its two highest quality grades.
Coffees from Sidamo feature a very special character and unique cup profile that justify considering them as some of the best coffees in the world.
These coffees are typically grown in smallholder structures. In most cases, family-owned farms yield only a small crop. Hence, farmers within one „woreda“ (i.e. district) usually collaborate. They collect their cherries at a central washing station rather than processing their coffee individually with their own machinery. One of them is based in
the woreda Bensa where this particular coffee is sourced from. During harvest season, producers deliver ripe cherries to the Bensa mill daily to carefully sort and process them. In this case, the dry processing method, also known as unwashed or natural, was applied.
This coffee is sweet, sirupy and floral, with notes blackberries, hibiscus, honey and pears.
